After discussion with Gren the following issues have been raised:
1- What is the purpose of the project?
After thinking about it I feel some kind of Computer Game intro Cinematic would be an ideal target to aim for since these are usually in High Definition to be viewed on computer screens are usually of high quality 3d rendered artwork giving some insight or background to the game the player is about to begin.
2- What kind of time constraints am I looking at because of HD rendering?
This is something I need to investigate, to find out if there are any standard formulae for working out the amount of time that will need to be put into the project mostly for rendering the output sequence. Also how long the piece is going to be will have a large effect on this.
3- Costings, since certain software will be required will I be able to get hold of them the list of possible software and its availability so far is:
Cinema 4D (available at uni and home)
3D Studio Max (might be available at home)
RealFlow (unsure)
Brazil RS (unsure)
After Effects (available at uni and home)
Sound software (available at uni and home)
Final Cut (available at uni and home)
I will be researching and analyzing various game intro cinematic's which I feel are somewhere close to what I might like to achieve including:
Dawn of War
Supreme Commander
Total Annihilation
Crysis
Enemy Territory: Quake Wars
Battlefield Series
Transformers: The Game
Ground Control
Ground Control 2
World in Conflict
I also need to come up with a background storyline for a game, and how that will be introduced to the audience by my cinematic.
Financial Update: I will be keeping a close track of costings of this project and keeping a note on my blog for future reference.
Some WH40K models have been bought ready for concepts and ideas:
Space Marines Dreadnought - £25
Tau XV88 Broadside - £12
Imperial Guard Sentinal - £12
This Brings current Budget total to £52
