FMP update

After discussion with Gren the following issues have been raised:

1- What is the purpose of the project?
After thinking about it I feel some kind of Computer Game intro Cinematic would be an ideal target to aim for since these are usually in High Definition to be viewed on computer screens are usually of high quality 3d rendered artwork giving some insight or background to the game the player is about to begin.

2- What kind of time constraints am I looking at because of HD rendering?
This is something I need to investigate, to find out if there are any standard formulae for working out the amount of time that will need to be put into the project mostly for rendering the output sequence. Also how long the piece is going to be will have a large effect on this.

3- Costings, since certain software will be required will I be able to get hold of them the list of possible software and its availability so far is:
Cinema 4D (available at uni and home)
3D Studio Max (might be available at home)
RealFlow (unsure)
Brazil RS (unsure)
After Effects (available at uni and home)
Sound software (available at uni and home)
Final Cut (available at uni and home)

I will be researching and analyzing various game intro cinematic's which I feel are somewhere close to what I might like to achieve including:
Dawn of War
Supreme Commander
Total Annihilation
Crysis
Enemy Territory: Quake Wars
Battlefield Series
Transformers: The Game
Ground Control
Ground Control 2
World in Conflict

I also need to come up with a background storyline for a game, and how that will be introduced to the audience by my cinematic.

Financial Update: I will be keeping a close track of costings of this project and keeping a note on my blog for future reference.
Some WH40K models have been bought ready for concepts and ideas:
Space Marines Dreadnought - £25
Tau XV88 Broadside - £12
Imperial Guard Sentinal - £12

This Brings current Budget total to £52

SubDzines is up and running
Just a placeholder but! its progress!

Idea has struck me!

Okay!
After much thought and dismissal of daft ideas I have come up with the following idea:

Main project:
A High Definition 3D and 2D Short Animation -
An animation of some description somehow involving complex modelling and animation techniques using both 3D and 2D special effects, produced in full high definition (720p and 1080p) for use on HD-DVD Bluray and DVD. To make this animation I will be using Cinema 4D, 3D-Studio Max and After Effects to model, create animate and composite a short animation.

My initial idea is to create something futuristic, perhaps some kinda of warhammer based future fantasy models, such as walkers, hovercraft etc. I want to be able to use HDRI maps in the rendering process to create accurate and realistic lighting. I want to explore the use of particle effects in 3d and also in after effects to create smoke, debris, fire, sparks and explosions.
I am planning to purchase some different 40k warhammer models to create some 'hybrid' mechanised concepts and then build on them in 3d as i find it much easier to model from an actual object.
My inspiration will be drawn from various Space marine, Chaos, Imperial Guard and Tau models.
I want to explore the use of motion graphics and 3d in a High Definition environment, as I feel the way the media and special effects are moving this is some good experience to have.

The 'Sub-Project' is essentially the advertising campaign and release media for the project.

Advertising campaign will consist of:
Print media :
Posters of varying size, A4, A3, A2...
Inlays for the special features?
HD-DVD, Bluray and DVD case cover inserts.

Screen media will consist of:
Website (html or flash depending on time constraints flash would be prefered but is not essential
Trailers for the piece at various resolutions eg Youtube, 720x576, 480p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p

The discs will contain various 'extras' materials, such as:
Trailers, hi-resolution renders, dvd-rom content (desktop wallpapers), making of, soundtrack etc.

Okay this is as far as i've got pretty much... so I guess it's a case of give me some Comments really...
Throw some ideas into the pot too please as I still need to finalise things really, suchas, length of the piece, can it actually be acheived in the time-frame, and if people can help with various things such as editing and soundtrack creation or will i have to learn to better myself at these things
Anyway i've typed too much so let me know what you guys think!
